Activities
Scenarios
-
List the jewellery you consider appropriate to wear if working for a
suburban travel agency.
-
List any travel and tourism associated work activities where safety equipment
would be a compulsory part of work attire. What would be the required safety
equipment?

- You are a young person working in a travel agency. You work in the ‘back
office’ controlling the supply of brochures and stationery. Because part of
your work is ‘physical’ you dress a little less formally than is required
in the front office. However, the agency owner has just told you it is time
for you to move into the main office and start to deal with the general public.
The agency’s clients are all ages – young, middle aged and elderly – and travel
all over the world. The office does not have a proper uniform so please describe
how you would present yourself with respect to clothing, personal hygiene,
etc.
- As the supervisor of an agency you interview a young girl who has rings
through her lip, very short skirts and low-cut tops. The agency has a significant
number of older people as clients. The girl has excellent credentials and
appears to be a hard worker. How would you discuss with her the matter of
her personal appearance and dress.
- You work for a tour wholesaler with a very large operations department.
Some of your printers are ‘dot matrix’ for computer printouts. One member
of the department has very long hair that is not tied back. It is not only
untidy but each time she bends over the printer you can see her hair almost
becoming entangled in the machine. You politely point this out to her but
she does not want to listen. It is a very real threat. How would you handle
this?
- The manager of the agency where you work has asked you to accompany a group
on a half-day bushwalk. The forecast is for warm, fine, weather. How would
you dress and what sort of precautionary items would you take with you?
