State the difference between commercial and non-commercial hospitality establishments.

Describe the major vocational areas in the Hospitality Industry.

Visit two hospitality establishments in your local area or in Work Worlds. Choose two different establishments, one small and one large – select on the basis of the number of departments and staff.

Use the organisational charts and job descriptions found in Work Worlds, your textbook or information sourced at the establishment, to answer the following questions.

What is the range of positions in the establishment you have chosen?
Briefly describe the main responsibilities of each position.

What is meant by the term multi-skilling? Explain this term using the Hospitality Industry as part of your example.

There are a variety of departments that make up the structure of hospitality organisatons. All these departments would be found within a large establishment.

Smaller establishments’ may have some of these departments.

For each department listed identify the main functions and services.
Describe the relationship that exists between various departments. Identify why this communication takes place.

Discuss the “service ethic”. (Hint: Think about professionalism and consistency).
Relate the term service ethic to a fast food operation.

Visit a fast food outlet in your local area.
What did you notice about the service ethics at this establishment?
Would you expect similar service ethics from other establishments? Why?

What are these attributes? List 5 personal attributes that a Hospitality employee should have.
Write an explanation that supports your belief that you have these attributes.
Describe the strategies you could use to help you acquire these attributes?
