It is not possible to know all there is
to know about every culture, however having some knowledge of the different
cultural backgrounds will promote respect and open-mindedness in the
workplace

Search the web for information regarding
another culture. Remember, you may work with customers and colleagues from many
different cultural backgrounds in the hospitality industry.
You are searching for information
regarding:
- Food - delicacies and food not traditionally eaten
- Religion- holy days or celebrations
- Non verbal Communication - what is acceptable what is not acceptable
- Wording - wording which is appropriate or not
- Service expectation - fast slow, like to joke, formality
- Forms of address- special titles or styles or tones
When you have found the material you require note your answer in the for discussion with your class regarding your findings. Make particular reference to what you did not know or what surprised you about this culture.
