Attributes of a good portfolio
This industry information and updated
knowledge is shared with customers and colleagues and incorporated into and
applied to daily work activities to assist your effective work performance in
the hospitality industry. The portfolio can also include documentation about your
own experiences in the hospitality industry, in order to provide
evidence.
A comprehensive portfolio contains the
following information:
- Relevant information from the following sources including the media, reference books, libraries, unions, industry associations, industry journals, the Internet, personal observation and workplace experience
- Updated information relating to the hospitality industry in general, and more
specifically of your workplace sector.
- Identification of the different sectors of the hospitality industry, their interrelationships and the different services available in each sector including a general knowledge of the role and function of the following:
- Food and beverage
- Front office
- Food production
- Housekeeping
- Clubs
- Gaming
- A description of the relationship between tourism and hospitality
- A description of the relationship between the hospitality industry and other
industries
- Hospitality industry working conditions
- The name, primary objective and impact on individual staff of legislation (both State and Federal) that applies to and affects the industry in the following areas:
- Liquor licensing
- Health and safety
- Hygiene
- Gaming
- Workplace relations
- Workers compensation
- Consumer protection and trade practices
- Duty of care
- Building regulations
- Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)
- Anti-discrimination
- Environmental issues and requirements
- Industrial
relations issues and major organisations including the role of trade unions and
employer groups in the
industry.
- A
description of the career opportunities within the
industry
- A
description of the work ethic required to work in the industry and industry

- An overview of
