Project evaluation

This material looks at the questions that a project team may consider when evaluating its productivity and effectiveness, particularly in the closing stage of the project.

Syllabus outcome

H5.1 A student applies project management techniques to maximise the productivity of the software development.
H6.3 A student uses a collaborative approach during the software development cycle.

Project evaluation is an important aspect of project management and contributes to the learning of all team members as well as future software development.

Continual evaluation throughout the duration of the project is necessary to ensure it is completed on time and of acceptable quality.

At the end of the project, it is important for all team members to look back and reflect on what lessons can be learnt from the project activities. It is a good chance to identify the project team’s strengths and weaknesses, both individually and as a group. Evaluation results can then be used in making decisions regarding future projects.

One useful source of end-of-project evaluation questions is the article Project "Post Mortem" Review Questions by Michael Greer. This article lists questions that will assist project team members to reflect on their performance in every stage of the project.
