Fencing materials

Most fences used in the primary industries are constructed with wire held up by and strained against posts. The design chosen for a particular fence will depend largely on the type of animals to be kept in, or out, of a paddock and the terrain that the fence will cross. The materials will be determined by the design, and importantly, cost and availability.

Whether the fence is containing a prize-winning bull on a beef stud or a large mob of Merino ewes or goats and alpacas on a hobby farm, the main components will be the same. These are:

  1. End assemblies
  2. Line posts
  3. Wire
  4. Gates
