This option builds on Core 2 Factors Affecting Performance. The activities in this module will support you to better understand how correct prevention, assessment and management and recovery from sports related injuries can help athletes at the time of injury and reduce the time spent on the sidelines.

How are sports injuries classified and managed
This focus question examines the process of classification of sporting injuries. Being able to correctly classify and assess injuries allows for appropriate treatment and management strategies to be administered or advised. This is beneficial for keeping athletes on the field and reducing rehabilitation time.
How does sports medicine address the demands of specific athletes
This focus question explores groups within the sports population and identifies the specific needs that should be considered to reduce the risk of injury. The implications of these strategies to manage the specific needs will be explored in this module.
What role do preventative actions play in enhancing the well-being of the athlete
This focus question examines how preventative actions taken by athletes and coaches can enhance the well-being of athletes and reduce the risk of injury. These preventative actions are often simple measures that are easily incorporated into a training regime.
How is injury rehabilitation managed?
This focus question explores the process of managing rehabilitation from an athletes' injury. Techniques to support an athletes' recovery from injury will be investigated in this section. Issues relating to a player's readiness to return to play are also examined.
