How can nutrition affect performance?

Hydration and fluid replacement

The core temperature of the human body is maintained within a narrow range of 1 degree above or below 37 degrees Celsius. During exercise the body generates heat energy as a result of the muscles burning fuel to power movement. To maintain a constant body temperature the body has to find someway to lose heat. This can be achieved in a number of ways including, radiation, conduction, convection and evaporation. It is also important to maintain a constant fluid balance in order for the body to be able to regulate its temperature effectively, especially during endurance events. A general rule to follow is that whenever you increase your energy expenditure, you also need to increase your water intake.
