The five areas selected as priorities for improving Australia’s health are cardiovascular disease, cancer, injury, mental health and diabetes. To determine why these areas were selected as priority areas it is important to research and analyse each priority area in terms of:

Injury is a significant cause of sickness and death in Australia. In 1996, injury accounted for 6% of all deaths. However, it is the main cause of death for children and young adults.
