Strategies to minimise fatigue
when you are driving
Plan your trip – determine how long you will travel
and when you will take a rest break or breaks. Studies show
that breaks from driving tend to delay the development of the
effects of fatigue. There are greater benefits if breaks are
taken early in a trip.
- Take a break from driving at least every two
hours.
- Share the driving wherever possible.
- Avoid long drives after work/school.
- Get plenty of sleep before you begin.
- Eat healthy foods if possible.
- Check that any medications you are using will not cause
side effects while you are driving.
- Don’t drink alcohol before or during your
trip.
- Pull over and stop if you are suffering from any of the
symptoms of fatigue.
