How are priority areas for Australia’s health identified?
Identifying priority areas
The identification of priority areas in health is determined by a range of methods. Studying trends in epidemiological measurements such as mortality and morbidity is part of the decision–making process. Other considerations need to be taken into account. These include the following:
- social justice principles
- priority population groups
- prevalence of the condition
- costs to individuals
- costs to the community
- potential for change
