PDHPE Discussion Forums

Core 1: 29 August - 4 September, 2005

Core 2: 13 - 20 September, 2005

NSW HSC Online will host a series of online discussion forums during Week 7 and Week 9 of Term 3 for teachers and students of the Stage 6 PDHPE course. Experts will chair the discussion forums on topics from each of the core modules. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions about exam tips and study techniques during both forums.

Both students and teachers are able to register for the forums. Registration will be through the NSW HSC Online web site and will open at 8.00am on Monday 29 August for Core 1 and Monday 12 September for Core 2.

All discussion forum participants will be able to see the questions asked, see the responses given by the experts, as well as have the opportunity to ask their own questions of the experts.

The experts will attempt to answer your questions within 24 hours of them being posted. The questions that are frequently posed will be moderated and posted on the FAQs section of this site at the end of the forums.

Message from Steve:

I've marked the HSC since 1993 and being a senior marker since 1996. I've written for the Independent Trial examination and was a curriculum reviewer for the BOS for this new HSC syllabus and the specimen paper provided by the Board.I was also asked to review some of the material in the new Outcomes textbooks. I really enjoy all of the PD / H / PE syllabus and in particular the exercise physiology and performance sections of Core 2.

I believe the key to success in this subject is the application of knowledge and the ability to address the Key words.

I look forward to hearing from you during the Core 2 forum.

Message from Michelle:

Hi! My name is Michelle Maher. I am an experienced PDHPE teacher at Hunter School of Performing Arts in Newcastle and am currently teaching my fifth Year 12 group under the new PDHPE syllabus. My experience, knowledge and interest in the senior syllabus, particularly Core 1, allows me to work outside of my own school in the areas of Yr 12 Study Days and HSC Marking. I hope this interest and enthusiasm for the Core 1 concepts will enhance your understanding of this area.

One piece of wisdom for Core 1:

Health issues are all around us, so don't confine yourself to using texts or class notes. Read magazines, newspapers, watch television, listen to news braodcasts and make use of the internet. You can then evaluate the worth of the health information presented. Make sense of what you learn by looking at "real" life examples and Core 1 won't seem as big a challenge!

.... there is a picture of me too - good luck in your exams!

Michelle
