Composing
1. Improvising a melody
- Download the following accompaniment
track and save it to your hard drive.

- Using the scale of D major to improvise a melody over the accompaniment track.
- Try using the scale of E F A B C to improvise another melody over
the accompaniment track.
- Experiment with other scales and vary the rhythmic motifs you have created.
- Record your improvisations.
- Listen to your recording and make a list of the things that work,
explaining why you think they do.
2. Creating your own composition
- Create and sequence a chord progression based on ideas you have
gained while studying this tutorial.
- Loop the progression and improvise on a separate track,
using a variety of ideas.
- When you feel comfortable with improvising, record the track.
- Repeat the process using different ideas and record them on a new track.
- Keep experimenting and recording your ideas on a new track each time.
- Cut and paste to collect the ideas that you like.
