An excellent range of primary and secondary sources to support the mandatory core, WWI, is provided on this extremely easy to navigate, developing site. Sections include: Conventions, treaties; Official papers; Documents by year; Memorials, personal reminiscences; Biographical dictionary; an Image archive (still under construction); Special topics and commentary articles; and comprehensive Links to other resources. Syllabus content areas are supported in varying degrees. The Somme campaign, for example, has a good selection of sources in the Memorials section although Australian experiences have very little mention. The quality of the sources is very good. The commentary article Haig: the great captain is brief and effectively models an expository text. J. Kempthorne, A. Littlewood

Definitely user-friendly, this site is presented in humorous, colloquial military style and colours, and is a good resource for teachers and students. Users can explore a plethora of approaches to studying this topic, such as: detailed information on specific battles (Ypres is good, but still being developed); manoeuvres and biographies; ideas on reenacting aspects of the Great War; and examples of literature of the times. Written documentation is well supplemented with graphics and photographs, and there are many hints to help guide the visitor through the various search facilities and hyperlinks.
