Greece has the 2nd highest youth unemployment rate in Europe. Youth between the ages of 15-24 are three times more likely to remain unemployed in comparison to older people.
- Describe the uncertainty that young people in Greece face. (2 marks)
Despite their many years of study, there is no prospect for the youth finding employment in their chosen area of study.
- How do young people try to overcome this problem? (3 marks)
They work in jobs that are unrelated to their studies. They remain unemployed. They seek work overseas in order to secure a better future.
- Discuss the consequences of youth unemployment in Greece. (3 marks)
Poverty, social alienation, lack of self-esteem, drugs, depression. Reluctance to start a family.
