Task 1

Marking Criteria
Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of what happened yesterday 3 marks
Demonstrates some understanding of  what happened yesterday 2 marks
Gives some information about what happened yesterday 1 mark

Sample Answer: It took her and her friend over two and a half hours to get from Tokyo to Yokohama and they had to change trains twice. The map that she had didn’t have the bullet train on it (it was from a guide book) and her friend didn’t have a map at all. They only discovered their mistake when they got to the Shin Yokohama train station, where they saw a big map with the bullet train line on it. Fortunately, they had only bought a one way ticket, so they could go back to Tokyo on the bullet train.

Task 2.1

Marking Criteria
Fully explains the purpose of the passage 2 marks
Gives some information about the purpose of the passage 1 mark

Sample Answer: The passage would appear to be an extract from a letter explaining his trip to Shin Osaka. He encloses a photo, which he describes in the third paragraph.

 

Task 2.2

Marking Criteria
Six including the tour guide (Hiroshi, Masaru, Haruko, Ken, Yukiko and Michiko the guide.) 1 mark

Marking Criteria
Demonstrates an excellent understanding of who the itinerary would appeal to with relevant examples and justification 4 marks
Demonstrates a good understanding of who the itinerary would appeal to with relevant examples and attempts to justify 3 marks
Demonstrates some understanding of who the itinerary would appeal to with examples 2 marks
Gives some information about the itinerary 1 mark

Sample Answer:

For all of the above reasons, I would recommend this tour for people with a very limited time frame who have never been to Japan before and want a “sheltered” environment with a little choice.

 

Task 3.2

Marking Criteria
Mt Fuji is advertised as part of the itinerary but you never get to go there 1 mark

Demonstrates a good understanding of why the itinerary would appeal/ not appeal to them with relevant examples and attempts to justify 3 marks
Demonstrates some understanding of why the itinerary would appeal/ not appeal to them with examples 2 marks
Gives some information about the itinerary and gives their opinion 1 mark
