Part A (informative, descriptive)

Task 1

You have been living in Nagoya in Japan for two months as an exchange student.

Write a letter to your Japanese class in Australia telling them about the type of leisure activities that Japanese students can do.

Task 2

You are an exchange student in Japan.

Write a report for your Japanese school newsletter comparing Australian and Japanese schools.

Task 3

You have just arrived in Japan to start your year as an exchange student.

Write a short dialogue between yourself and your host brother or sister about your school life in Japan You should ask about such things as subjects, sports, lunch and start and finish times. Ask for any other information that is appropriate.

Task 4

Your parents are coming to visit you in Japan. You will make a trip to the Japanese grandparents' house in the country, and they are worried about what to give your parents to eat.

Write a letter to the Japanese grandparents explaining what kinds of foods your parents normally eat in Australia and give recommendations about suitable Japanese food. You should assure them not to worry too much, as Australians are used to eating food from many different countries. Use this opportunity to write about aspects of Australian and Japanese cuisine.

Task 1

Recount your first experience of shopping by yourself in Japan. Say what you bought, how much it cost, how you travelled, and your impressions of your experience.

Task 3

You visited a Japanese friend at home.

Write a letter in Japanese to your Japanese class in Australia about the differences in manners and customs when visiting someone at home.
