The writing section of the examination is worth 15 marks.
You may use dictionaries in this section of the examination.
This is the third section of the written examination. It is designed to assess your ability to express yourself in Japanese through the production of original texts in Japanese.
You will be required to respond to two tasks, graded in difficulty. The tasks will involve presentation of ideas and/or information and/or opinions. They will require different kinds of writing. Part A will be informative or descriptive and Part B will be reflective, persuasive or evaluative. In Part A (5 marks) there will be no choice of task and students will be required to write 100-200 ji. In Part B (10 marks) there will be a choice of tasks requiring a response of 300-400 ji in the same text type. The tasks will be phrased in English for a response in Japanese.
In your preparation, practise using genkooyooshi (squared writing paper) correctly and writing in script clearly and neatly. Practise writing using a variety of senior structures, vocabulary and kanji. In the examination, read the questions carefully and check that you have addressed all parts. It is important to maintain a logical flow of ideas, and to express yourself clearly using language based on prescribed senior structures.
