The existing support is not enough because English language classes if attended full time means the studnets cant work and earn an income, however if they work and study at same time, the study is difficult and time consuming even if the job is not demanding. Even if there is financial assistance for a limited time to attend intensive language courses, the funding is not sufficient to meet the financial needs of individuals; with continual cutbacks it is hard to find a quick solution for the needs of new arrivals.

The writer’s intention was achieved by the editor responding to her letter. She has the editor’s support as he recognises the importance of dealing with this issue. In addition the editor has organised a round table discussion with various ministerial representatives with responsibility for migrant issues. He intends to publish an article to inform the community of any proposed measures as a result of discussions and he hopes this is the beginning of a series of positive changes in this area.
