- What is a prototype? Why is it used to develop an information system?
Prototype is a working model of an information system, built in order to understand the requirements of the system.
- Explain 2 varieties of prototypes.
There are screen generators and report generators.
- Explain why feedback is important when conducting a project.
This is the communication with the participants and modification of the prototype to help understand the nature of the problem.
- The feasibility of a project is judged on a number of aspects. What are these and explain each one?
- Economic or financial feasibility? Is it going to cost too much?
- Technical feasibility ? Do we already have the hardware, software and other resources to achieve a solution?
- Do the current work practices and procedures support a new system? Also social factors
i.e. how the organisational changes will affect the working lives of those affected by the system.
Does the solution solve the problem? Does the system work?
- Scheduling or time frame feasibility ? Can a solution be found within a set time period?
- Can a solution to a project always be found?
If the prototype and the feasibility study indicate that there is a solution, then the problem can be solved.
- Explain what each of the following tools are and draw a diagram to clarify your answer:
- Context diagrams
- Data flow diagrams
- Decision trees
- Decision tables
- Data dictionaries
- Storyboard
- What must be done to make sure that the solution is working and can be maintained?
- Test and evaluate the solution with REAL data.
- Check to see if the original objectives have been achieved.
- Produce documentation for participants to use the new information system.
