Stage 6 Information and processes technology

Career profile

Chris DorbisName: Chris Dorbis
Age: 50
Employer: NSW Department of Education and Training
Position in company: Senior Curriculum Adviser, Information Management
Job description:
Coordinating the flow of information from Curriculum K-12, developing professional learning courses about ICT and curriculum, attending meetings to ensure curriculum is embedded in the projects and developing web sites.

Qualifications:
Bachelor of Arts, Diploma of Education, Post-graduate Certificate Aboriginal Studies, Post-graduate Certificate E-learning.

Best thing about the job:
Makes me think, challenges my understanding of information use and I use my imagination to drive my computer skills.

Worst thing about the job:
Finding coding mistakes, like a ‘.’ or <a> out of place because it takes too much time to change, and the changing application of ICT. How do you ensure other people are using the technologies to the fullest?

Strangest thing you’ve had to do:
Design web sites - it isn’t easy to do all aspects and it feels weird having to deal with images, text, layout etc. That is I have to use all aspects of my mind.

When you were at school, did you plan to do this type of work?
This type of work didn’t exist when I left school - I am a history teacher who got here by other pathways that didn’t exist.
