ICT organisations
The information and communications technology (ICT) sector covers a diverse array of businesses in areas from computer hardware and software, networking and communications to the Internet, telecommunications, multimedia and more.
Information technology department – e.g. the IT department of a large organisation, such as Centrelink or Optus.
Information technology consulting organisation – e.g. an IT consulting company.
IT consultants provide information technology services to client organisations who outsource (purchase externally) their IT requirements. Typically information technology consultants work in teams that are managed or supervised by a project manager. Consultants work in client organisations until the information technology project is complete. This type of IT organisation offers these services:
- Management consulting (managing the business side of large projects)
- Information technology management (managing the IT side of large projects)
- Project management (daily management of all types of projects)
- Technology consulting (hardware and network design)
- Systems development (developing custom software)
