There are two basic types of graphics that you can use to enhance your Microsoft Word document:
Drawing objects include Autoshapes, curves, lines and Word Art drawing objects. Use the drawing toolbar to change and enhance these objects with colours, patterns, borders, and other effects.
Pictures are graphics that were created from another file. They include bitmaps, scanned pictures and photographs, and clip art. You can change and enhance pictures using the options on the picture toolbar and a limited number of options on the drawing toolbar. In some cases, you must ungroup and convert a picture to a drawing object before you can use the drawing toolbar option.
All candidates in Industrial Technology need to be able to utilise the full range of graphics techniques used in their focus area.
Search the Internet to find a
picture of a set of drawers made from solid timber and insert
the picture into a Microsoft Word document. Try SwanRiver Furniture
for examples of a set
of drawers. Bookmark any additional sites that you have found
interesting.
You must be careful about the way in which you select and use images from the Internet. Just as a picture in a book is copyright, images on the Internet may be copyright. Unless an image is marked as being free to copy it should be considered to be copyright and it should not be copied and used without permission of the copyright holder.

Free pictures that you obtain from the Internet can be edited to suit your needs. That is, the pictures shown here have been altered to see what it would look like if it were made narrower. Using a picture you have downloaded from the Internet change its size and shape a number of times to see what it looks like.
Clip Art are graphics that may be located on your computer, can be downloaded from the Internet or are available on a range of comercially produced CD's.
The Clip Art in the pictures below came from the Internet. There are over one hundred sites on the web that issue free Clip Art. Still other sites make Clip Art available but a fee is payable.
