Introduction

Once you start using the Web you will realize that information overload is a very real possibility. It is advisable that you archive all the material gathered (Web pages, sound files, articles, emails, search results, etc ..) in some sort of logical, coherent and easy-to-use manner. The items below explain how archiving can be done in a friendly way (Forrest, E. 1999).

Bookmarks
One of the easiest ways to archive information on the Web is to use "bookmarks". Bookmarks are web browser facilities which allow you to select your favorite web pages to be added into a list of saved links. Most Web browser software programs provide a bookmark fuction, sometimes referred to by a different name. Microsoft Internet Explorer calls it "Favourites" and Netscape calls it "Bookmarks". One important thing that you have to be aware about bookmarking is that not all information published on the Web remains there forever, sometimes links are updated, removed or even change address, so depending on how important the information is for you, you might have to consider keeping a print copy or saving it into a floppy disk (Forrest, E. 1999).
