Yes. Florian has just started going out with Renate, but she seems very fussy. After only 3 weeks she is getting irritated by him because he speaks loudly and she doesn’t like the way he dresses. She admits that she chose him because of his looks and his sense of humour. Thomas knows that Florian is very popular and thinks Renate is too critical. He wants her to just try to understand him. He probably feels that Renate is superficial and if she made an effort everything would be okay

No. Renate started going out with Florian because she thought he was good looking, but now she finds he wears funny clothes. She liked him because he was funny, but now she finds he talks too loudly. He is also unpunctual, which would be annoying. Thomas likes Florian because they are in a football team together and Florian is popular with lots of people - but that doesn’t mean he should criticise Renate for being too fussy. Trying to understand Florian probably won’t help, and it’s up to her anyway.
