Sample listening tasks
Task 1 (HSC-type task)
- How does Mr Giron account for the popularity and success of his stores? (5 marks)
- Great diversity and choice as well as quality
- From classical to extravagant fashions
- Caters for a wide client base
- Entices the young with original but comfortable clothes
- Attempts to entice most customers to buy
- Clothes also come in a great range colours for everyone (vibrant or sombre to suit all tastes).
Task 2 (HSC-type task)
- What are the advantages she mentions? (5 marks)
- She would save 300 euros (that she would have had to pay) on a yearly gym membership and 60 euros on a monthly public transport card / ticket.
… j'économisais 300 euros par an d'abonnement en salle de gym, et 60 euros par mois de carte NaviGO. - If everyone rode a bicycle, it would help reduce pollution in our cities, we would be in better health, we would not destroy the environment as much and we would save more.
Pour réduire la pollution dans nos villes… on serait en meilleure santé, on détruirait moins l'environnement et on ferait plus d'économies.

- Explain how she minimised the potential dangers. (3 marks)
- She could avoid accidents because in the centre (middle) of the city/cars tend to travel at a moderate speed.
Il y avait peu de chance d'être victime d'un accrochage car dans le centre ville, les voitures roulent en général avec une vitesse modérée. - Also, she would follow the same route everyday/and she knew all the dangerous areas on her way.
Et puis, pour éviter d'avoir un accident je prenais toujours le même chemin pour aller travailler et je connaissais bien les coins dangereux sur ma route.
