In the core strand, Food manufacture, you will examine the production of food products through to packaging, marketing and distribution.

Outcomes
This material addresses aspects of the following syllabus outcome:
H1.1 The student explains manufacturing processes and technologies used in the production of food products

Activity

To revise this aspect of food manufacture complete the following question. It will help to clarify your thoughts about a variety of production and preservation techniques as well as marketing and consumer issues.

Select FOUR food products, one from each of the following categories:

dried, frozen, canned and fresh.

For each food product:

  1. Write a product description.
  2. Draw a flow chart showing its development from the raw material to the manufactured product.
  3. Describe benefits to the consumer when using the product, for example, convenience, storage and nutritional value.
  4.  Explain marketing strategies associated with the product
