In the core strand, The Australian food industry, you will learn about aspects of the Australian food industry. In order for the industry to prosper and grow resources need to be directed to research and development (R & D). A result of R & D is innovation which provides the foundation for the future of the Australian food industry. The CSIRO is the cornerstone of Australia's research and development.

The food processing sector of the Australian food industry is responsible for many of the changes we see on the supermarket shelf. Many of these innovations are a result of research and development carried out by the CSIRO.
