The National Food Industry Strategy web site is a detailed, up-to-date source of information on the Australian food industry. The National Food Industry Strategy (NFIS) is an industry-led, Australian Government funded initiative to support Australia's food industry towards a sustainable and profitable role in the global food industry. The Strategy is a five-year (2002-2007) strategy.

is access to current farm statistics and milk marketing statistics

related Health and nutrition. It is a valuable, attractive,

is represented at this site. Within the site information can
be found relating to: Food standards; Genetically modified
foods; Food safety; and Food recall. Students

and the information presented authoritative, consisting largely
of official papers, standards and proposals. Teachers and students
may wish to seek additional information reflecting more diverse

An excellent, easily navigated site, almost all the links
within this site have some value. Education takes the
user to School projects, from which users can access Health
issues and Food technology/agriculture. The
latter contains excellent information on marketing, including
an in depth background to the 'iron campaign', and suggested
activities for students. Australian beef fact sheets are
also available on the front page; these can be viewed and downloaded. Industry news gives a valuable overview of the meat industry,
and information on quality management. Good living contains
a food safety section. The Library has its own search
facility to access information within the site and its archives.

(changes monthly) of topics provides a wealth of valuable information
for food technology teachers and students. It is particularly
useful for the Food Technology: Stage 6 syllabus (approved
1999) core strand, Food product development, and students
investigating food marketing, and innovations in the Australian
food industry. New product lines describes the latest
products and profiles, the market to which they are targeted,
and any other outstanding features, such as packaging. Also updated
monthly, Cover story should not be overlooked. Student
tasks could include: justifying the development of one new product;
identifying the different types of products; and writing design
