Textual integrity
All page references are to the Picador 1988
edition of In the Skin of a Lion.
Critical study of texts develops students'
understanding of textual integrity.
To do so it will be necessary to:
- explore the literary qualities of the text
- explore different readings of the text
- reflect on the values implied by these readings
- apply two approaches: the cultural heritage approach, and the
cultural analysis approach
The definition of textual integrity in the
Stage 6 English Syllabus is:
"the unity of a text; its coherent use of
form and language to produce an integrated whole in terms of
meaning and value" (page 143)
