United Arab Emirates.

Name: Suchi Menon

Age: 24

Employer: ALSTOM Power (Switzerland)

Position in company: Product Support/Product Development engineer for gas turbine combustion.

Job description: Provide technical support for GT13E2 gas turbines with respect to natural gas combustion issues. Develop new combustion technologies (hardware and/or software) for new engine development.

Qualifications: B.Eng. (Chemical) Hons. Class I

Best thing about the job: Experiencing life in Europe; traveling to site for implementation of new hardware and/or software; getting to use my Engineering skills!!!

Worst thing about the job: Being so far away from home.

Strangest thing you’ve had to do: Crawl into the combustion chamber (essentially a large donut) for a maintenance inspection.

When you were at school, did you plan to do this type of work? Not at all. I had no prior knowledge of combustion systems. In fact, throughout my degree, I thought about entering the food industry.

* I currently work for DuPont in Sydney, as part of the ANZ Growth Team. My role is as a Business Growth Technical Specialist and I work out of the research facility in Wetherill Park. We look into innovative ways of capturing the white space between business units.
