Briefly, explain how competition policy has helped increase efficiency in the electricity industry.
The corporatisation and privatisation of public monopolies, like the electricity business, has fostered a more commercial focus in the industry reducing costs and increasing productivity. The greater use of contract labour and the increased interstate competition to supply power to the national grid has reduced prices and increased output. These efficiency gains have moved the supply curve from SS 1 to SS 2.
