Training programs

• From University of NSW

  UNSW run a series of inservice courses and workshops designed to provide support and guidance in the implementation of the new HSC Earth and Environmental Science course.

  2. Earth and Environmental Science: Teaching an Integrated Science Subject, II; 16-17 June 2000. This workshop focused on the HSC modules.

  • The NSW Minerals Council
    This organisation provides free teachers tours of mining operations in NSW. Secondary teaching and learning materials, including written, video and multimedia packages, are available for use by teachers and students of science. Rock collections, with explanatory notes, are also available. The Council’s education team periodically arranges field trips for students and teachers.
    
    Minerals industry publications, relating to research and general information, are usually available free on request for students. Many of these cover Australia's mineral and energy resources, the nature and importance of the industry and current issues impacting on the industry.
    
    The education section of the Minerals Council's web site has a range of useful resources, including a virtual tour of the Cadia Hill Gold Mine, located near Orange.

Useful web sites

• The Earth and Environmental Science section of the web site of the Learning Materials Production Centre (LMPC), a unit of the NSW Department of Education and Training that develops materials for delivery to distance education students. The site has recommended module-specific links.

• The Earth and Environmental Science section of the UniServe Science.

• UniServe Science , a site maintained by Sydney University, seeks to enhance the quality of university and school science teaching by maintaining and disseminating information on up-to-date and innovative materials for use throughout Australia. The site also publishes reviews, criticism and ideas related to teaching and learning materials for science. It is a great starting point if you or your students are seeking information on syllabus content. The site has recommended module-specific links.

• HSC Teachers page. This is a specialist site provided for teachers by the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Science, University of NSW. It aims to help teachers gain a better understanding of the content and requirements of the new Earth and Environmental Science syllabus.

• Resources for the HSC unit Earth and Environmental Science
  This page is under construction. It will contain resources developed by staff of Macquarie University.
