Building Ecology Education package
Developed by Peter Graham (author of Building Ecology: first
principles for a sustainable built environment). This is
a series of lectures with extensive notes and activities to explore
the idea of sustainability and the built environment. The
purpose is to educate students about how the natural and built
environments can work in harmony, using a systems approach.
The combined book and lecture series is based on four main topics: Interdependency; Thermodynamics; Change and Case studies. The package can be delivered in pdf format on CD ROM, with full annotations for each slide.
Activities for high school students have
included the creation of an "urban metabolism map"
to find out where the pollution goes; and a "home audit"
to calculate the embodied energy, life-cycle impact and energy
rating of their home. Visit http://www.buildingecology.com
