The Space: ABC Arts Online

In the Design and Technology HSC course you will learn about trends in designing and producing. One way of keeping up to date is to make the following web site, The Space: ABC Arts Online Selecting this link will take you to an external site., one of your favourites. The Space contains lots of contemporary items about designers, processes and technological developments which impact on the arts and design. For example, at the time of writing this tutorial there was an article on Phillip Treacy Selecting this link will take you to an external site., a UK milliner who was exhibiting his work in Melbourne.

You may find the web site a useful source of examples that can be used when writing answers for your HSC written paper.

Activity

  1. Select two items from the current pages available on The Space and discuss the issues arising from the trends examined. It is best to select the Design option. Ideally select items that relate in some way to your major design project, either specifically if you're lucky, or to the overall design area you are involved in or the design process.

Remember a discussion text identifies issues and presents points for and /or against.

  2. An example of the type of question you could be asked in the HSC written paper is:

    Question 14 (15 marks)

    2. Explain the likely social and economic impacts of this new or emerging technology. (4
    3. Analyse the important factors that would need to be involved in moving emerging technologies into a successful innovation in the marketplace. Give examples to illustrate your answer. (8)
