HSC Outcome H1.2: Relates the practices and processes of designers and producers to the major design project.
Design and production takes place in order to create specific end results. These end results may include products, systems and environments in real, model, prototype or graphical form.
Steps in the process of design and production can be identified and applied. These steps are complex and do not necessarily take place in a linear or sequential order.
Areas for consideration include:
It is important that you are aware of the processes that designers and producers use. You should also be aware that the processes will vary for each specific design and technological activity.
In undertaking the Major Design Project you will use design processes. The steps in a design process are not followed in any particular sequence, e.g. the process of evaluation will be revisited often in any Design Project.
The Case Study will provide an example of design and production activity in an organisation. It will enable you to appreciate how design and production processes are undertaken in the wider community.
Other resources such as guest speakers, interviews, case studies, videos and books can all present information about processes that designers and producers use.
