Explain what you would use the following computer
technology for
- Digital camera - to take photos that can be
downloaded directly into the computer. Digital photos
can then be inserted into a document.
- Zip drive - to save and access files on a Zip disk,
for backup or storage purposes. Especially useful for
large files, such as photos or multimedia.
- Modem - to enable the transfer of information via
the Internet.
- Scanner - to copy a picture and transfer it to the
computer’s memory.
- You have been making changes to a document on
the computer. You now want to save the changes without
changing the original document. How do you do
this?
Go to "File", click on "Save as",
select the new destination of the file and/or a new name
and click "Save".
- What is a peripheral device?

What routine maintenance should be carried out on
the following pieces of office equipment?
- Mouse - open the mouse when the computer is turned
off and remove the ball. Clean the ball and rollers
before reassembling.
- Keyboard - clean with damp cloth, use small
purpose-built vacuum cleaner or compressed air aerosol
to clean out between the keys.
- Printer - wipe the outside with a damp cloth, clean
inside with small vacuum cleaner or compressed air
aerosol. If the printer is an inkjet printer, clean the
print heads, by either pushing the appropriate button
on the printer or accessing the printer's
maintenance utility from the computer (this is
dependant on the model of printer). If the printer is a
laser printer, refer to the printer manual for
maintenance instructions.
- Scanner - ensure glass is clean, wipe outside with
damp cloth.
- Computer - to ensure that it runs smoothly delete
unwanted files, empty the recycle bin, run disk
defragmenter.

CD-ROM, Zip disk or other storage device.
- Backing up – Using a backup utility program
to create compressed backup copies of files which can
be saved to backup tapes, Zip disks, CD-ROMS etc.
