Activities answers
- List the conditions of work that would be included in
your contract for employment.
Hours of work as well as starting and finishing times,
lunch break, hourly rate of pay.
- Would you be covered by an award, an enterprise
agreement or an Australian Workplace Agreement? Justify
your answer.
Most likely you would be covered by an award, setting
out the minimum conditions for this industry. Since you are
only employed two days per week, it is likely that it is a
small company and so would not have entered into an
enterprise agreement or an AWA.
- A colleague (of the opposite sex) keeps asking you out
even though you tell him/her that you are not interested.
Explain what you should do to get him/her to stop.
You should make it clear that you are not interested.
Ask him/her to stay away from you. If he/she doesn’t
stay away, speak to your supervisor about it.
- As a clerical worker, which union would you join?
The Australian Services Union – NSW Clerical and
Administrative Branch.
- Explain the rights you have as an employee.
You have the right to be paid the correct rate of pay;
you can join a union if you wish; you can expect to work in
a safe environment; you can expect to work in an
environment free from any harassment or discrimination; you
can resign when you wish to but not be unfairly dismissed;
you must have access to a grievance resolution process if
you are unhappy about something; you can expect to be given
clear instructions so that you can complete the work
expected of you; you should receive training and advice and
be able to seek promotion on merit.
