He is confused because he doesn’t want to upset either of his two friends Khalid or Samir. Each of them has asked him to go out tomorrow, but he cannot decide what to do as the two do not talk to each other.

Sample answer
At the beginning, he rejects the idea of going to the Arabic party with Layla and her friends, but as she persists and explains that it will be an interesting experience including a variety of Arabic food and belly dancing, Michael agrees to go with them.
