Job description: Shear sheep and goats on different properties.
Training or Experience: The training for this job is all on the job training. I have beenshearing for 15 years.
Best thing about the job: Moving around and seeing a lot of the country, meeting and working with a lot of different people. Getting paid for the effort you put in, the more sheep you shear, the more you get paid.
Worst thing about the job: The heat in summer, burrs and thistles and fly blown sheep.
Strangest thing you've had to do: Shear a sheep for a demonstration at Darling Harbour, for1600 people!
When you were at school, did you plan to do this type of work?
No, but as shearing is in my blood (my father was also a shearer) it was an easy job to fall into.
