Employer: Department of Land and Water Conservation
Job description:
Mapping soil landscapes by looking at aerial photos and maps. The job involves 50% fieldwork which mostly involves collecting soil samples for testing.
Qualifications: Degree in Applied Science and Geography, UNSW
Best thing about the job: Getting out and seeing countryside I wouldn't normally see.
Worst thing about the job: Convincing landholders it is in their best interest to let me on their land.
Strangest thing you've had to do: Despite spending lots of time on muddy properties, I've only been bogged in the city and I had to dig myself out when I was 7 months pregnant.
When you were at school, did you plan to do this type of work? I always wanted to work with the environment. I was interested in Earth Science and Geography.
